Ionise

Rethinking communications technology

In an increasingly networked world where communication is a crucial factor, we were faced with the challenge of developing an innovative solution to increase the efficiency of data transmission.

Traditional communication systems were reaching their limits, especially in terms of miniaturization and adaptation to different environments.

It was clear that a paradigm shift was necessary to meet the requirements of future communication infrastructures.

Revolve communication

In close cooperation with CommScope, Somsof, Telecom Italia and the Tyndall National Institute, Bartels Mikrotechnik started working on the development of a breakthrough electrowetting system for communications.

Our task was to develop the structure and logic behind electrowetting to provide the basis for efficient data transmission.

Electrowetting allows the surface tension of liquids to be modulated by electric fields, enabling precise control of liquid droplets to transmit information.

Together into the future of communication

The intensive cooperation between these partners led to a breakthrough in communications technology.

The electrowetting system not only enables extremely fast and precise data transmission, but is also extremely versatile and robust against environmental conditions.

This successful cooperation between Bartels Mikrotechnik, CommScope, Somsof, Telecom Italia and the Tyndall National Institute has opened the door to new possibilities in communication technology and will undoubtedly shape the future of the networked world.

High-Throughput Microbioreactor

Continuous improvement of cell life

In the production of biopharmaceuticals, many processes are still manual and time-consuming. This circumstance is driving the need for a continuous process concept.

A key challenge is to optimize the performance of bioreactors and ensure the viability of the cells they contain over extended periods of time, often several weeks. During this period, fresh culture media must be continuously supplied, spent media must be removed from the bioreactor, and the cells should remain in the bioreactor even during this media change.

Although such systems currently exist, they are mainly limited to larger bioreactors. The Bartels Mikrotechnik research project aims to use microfluidics expertise to significantly improve bioreactor performance.

Cooperation and expertise in the field of microtechnology

As part of the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM) and an international cooperation with a leading company in the biotech industry, we have developed the solution to this problem.

Our strategy is to take advantage of microfluidics to create microscale bioreactors.

This allows precise control over the cell environment and media exchange.

Cooperation leads to innovation

The research project has meant that smaller bioreactors can now be operated with high efficiency and precision.

The viability of cells over long periods of time has been significantly improved, making the production of biopharmaceuticals more efficient and cost-effective.

This progress is a significant step towards future automation and scalability in biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

MiMidflow

Optimization of own products

The cooperation between Bartels Mikrotechnik, Hahn-Schickard and 2E mechatronic GmbH & Co. KG was initiated to address a challenging problem.

The existing mp6 micropump from Bartels Mikrotechnik, used in various applications, already met high performance standards. Nevertheless, there was a crucial bottleneck: the lack of an integrated flow sensor.

This led to uncertainties in the control and regulation of the flow, which limited the applications and affected efficiency.

The challenge was to find a solution to develop the mp6 pump into an accurate flow controller while providing additional connectivity for sensor signals.

Meeting of three experts ...

In close cooperation with Hahn-Schickard and 2E mechatronic GmbH & Co. KG, an innovative solution was developed.

A high-precision flow sensor was added to the mp6 micropump, making it possible to measure and control the flow in real time.

This transformed the pump into an efficient flow controller that can be used in a wide range of applications, from medical devices to laboratory equipment.

In addition, new connectivity was integrated to route sensor signals to the outside, greatly improving data integration and analysis.

From mp6 to the flow controller

The cooperation between Bartels Mikrotechnik, MiMid-Flow, Hahn-Schickard and 2E mechatronic GmbH & Co. KG led to a groundbreaking result.

The mp6 micropump was successfully developed into a high-precision flow controller that meets the requirements of various industries.

The integration of the flow sensor enables precise control of the flow and significantly improves the precision and efficiency of the applications. The new connectivity opens the door to advanced data processing and analysis, further enhancing the innovative power of the technology.

This successful collaboration underlines the strength of the partnership between the companies involved and their ability to work together to overcome technological challenges and create innovative solutions.
